Sink or Swim
Sink or Swim is a party-game for four players on PC in which the players impersonate a team of sailors stuck inside of a submarine. They have to cooperate in order to manoeuver the submarine through caves and fights, avoid sinking, and collect treasures.
The game focuses on cooperation between players, even the smallest actions, such as moving or firing back at enemies, require at least two players. Communication happens naturally this way, and dealing together with chaotic and difficult situations creates a real sense of accomplishment. This game was developed on Unity by a team of four student during two months. My tasks : - Game Designer
Sink or Swim's game design was designed by the complete team through regular meetings, each focused on an aspect of the game. We have worked on defining the sailors’ controls as well as the submarine’s and designing the various foes met in the game. Our main challenge was to balance a game about chaos and making sure that every mechanic would be both fun by itself and challenging to use with the others. - Level Designer My main task on Sink or Swim was to create the several caves that the players can explore. Three different caves are available in the game, each with a different theme and unique challenges. The main problematic in the game’s level design was to create situations that could only be solved through cooperation. This was achieved by asking the players to combine several of the submarine’s gears at the same time with various combinations. |
