Exodus - W.I.P.
Exodus is a Pen & Paper RPG taking place in an original Space Opera universe. The players are invited to play as members of an Independent Crew, mercenaries recruited by the biggest corporations to explore the deep unknown space and claim planets with high-value resources in their name, as well as doing some shadier jobs.
The game is mainly Roleplay-oriented, with a simple but complete system supported by specific rules for specific situations. Spaceship navigation and customisation, equipment crafting and upgrading, social systems, dynamic fights and dogfights, among others, make sure that every kind of character can blend in and find interest in the game.
Exodus is developed by a team of four friend for four years. The rules are almost completed and the background is currently being written down.
- Designing the core gameplay
The core gameplay is the most important part of a RPG, and it was the one we designed first. For the first year, the four of us worked to create a rich and complete system that could be used to deal with any situation possible. This system has been repeatedly tested through regular playtests, organised by the complete team, before being validated.
- Designing the inventory system and the items
My first task on the inventory has been to create a template for every item that could be easily used by any other member of the team to create items related to the various subsystems. This template had to be easy to use and to make every information concerning an item easy to access. I also worked on balancing the items, especially vehicles or combat-related items such as weapons and armours.
- Designing the Virtual Reality Immersion system
The Immersion system is one of the specific rules we wanted to implement to enrich the gameplay and bring variety to the situations. It allows players to immerge themselves in virtual reality to use informatics devices, with a large spectrum of possible uses. My task was to create these rules and to balance them but also to define the corresponding lore to make it fit the rules while keeping the system simple and fun.
- Writing background - WIP
The background is an important part of Exodus and the complete team is taking part in its creation. This far, I have written the complete background and description for three out of the six species that can be played as. The background redaction is still ongoing.
